Since I live in the UK, I've rediscovered the tradition of sending cards for all occasions and especially in Christmas season. I mean real paper cards, not electronic ones... Around this period, we can see cards everywhere! in front of windows, in offices... I found it very friendly and welcoming!

Hay-on-Wye – A Town of Books

Situé à la frontière du Pays de Galles dans les paysages bucoliques du parc national des Brecon Beacons, Hay-on-Wye est un village des plus étonnants, aujourd'hui bien connu des amateurs de livres.

Richard Booth, diplomé d'Oxford, décida de revenir dans sa region et ouvrit en 1961 une boutique de livres d'occasion à Hay-on-Wye, avec à la fois le rêve et la conviction qu'une ville pleine de livres pourrait devenir une attraction internationale: "You buy books from all over the world and your customers come from all over the world."

Entrepreneur d'un genre particulier avec l'humour en guise de marketing, il déclara aux médias le 1er Avril 1977 l'indépendance d'Hay-on-Wye et s'en proclama son Monarque! Hay-on-Wye est devenu the "first official Booktown", et la librairie de Richard Booth, la plus grande "Secondhand Bookshop" d'Europe. A ce jour la ville regroupe une trentaine de librairies (pour environ 1500 habitants!).

Imaginez, une ville pleine de charme, envahie de livres... Il y en a partout! Dans des jardins en libre service, dans le parc du chateau entassés sur des étagères bringuebalantes, sur les murs de passages sombres, à l'intérieur d'un vieux ciné... Bill Clinton, invité d'honneur du Hay Literary Festival en 2002, qualifia cette manifestation de "Woodstock of the mind"!

Ellen Bell - Story

Histoires d'amours secrètes, platoniques... dévoilées à demi-mot, ici peut-être, grâce à l'intervention d'Ellen Bell.

Pour la préparation de sa nouvelle installation, Ellen Bell a demandé aux visiteurs du Bristol Museum de poster le nom d'un amour secret qui aurait marqué leur vie.

Les noms de personnes aimées secrètement se retrouvent ainsi révélés, collés à une autre histoire, celle d'un livre, dépossedé de sa couverture, au milieu d'autres livres, anomymes, ici refermés pour toujours.

Cette bibliothèque, érigée comme une tour, incarne tous ces sentiments amoureux enfouis, non-dits, à la fois une impossibilité et une réserve d'amour incroyable.
J'adore le travail de cette artiste sur lequel on pourrait épiloguer sans cesse. Si vous voulez la découvrir plus amplement c'est par là.

Story a été réalisé dans le cadre du Plinth project, et exposé au Bristol Museum & Art Gallery.
